Leaders of Korean American Community Condemn Attacks on Two Korean Men by Amazon Employees

On July 30, representatives from the Korean American community gathered in Flushing, Queens to condemn a recent attack on two Korean men by two Amazon employees.

According to a police report, Han Jae-yeol and Park Woo-ha of the New York Korean Baseball Association were assaulted by an Amazon deliveryman near Northern Boulevard on July 9.

At the press conference, Mr. Park said, "An Amazon employee was parking his vehicle when he threw a water bottle at Mr. Han's car. When he asked why he threw the bottle, the employee suddenly began beating Mr. Han with his fists." As a result of the attack, Mr. Han suffered a bruised left eye and a tear on the back of his head that required stitches.

The NYPD is reportedly investigating whether the attack is a hate crime. Law enforcement secured footage of the crime on nearby CCTV and arrested the suspect on charges of assault.

Community members were joined by State Senator John Liu and City Councilman Peter Koo, who have spoken out about the spike of anti-Asian hate crimes during the pandemic.
